My hero votes this week go to the 90 people in Hepburn Shire who signed up to get their energy from the sun. I feel very encouraged by this, and although I was never that interested in statistics, the numbers are impressive:The average household produces 15 tonnes of greenhouse gas per year. That's about 300,000 black balloons or about 40 trees.
Photovoltaic systems convert sunlight into electricity. They're cheap to run and they can divert any power not used back into the grid. This makes a real contribution to eliminating greenhouse gas emissions by using the sun's energy to power our homes.
